I presume it's this type?

Nope, if the tabs are breaking, not much you can do besides replacement. You could try gluing the tabs back in place with a strong epoxy, but I doubt it would hold for long.
I have a 2003 XJ8 with the small center caps -- the tabs always break! I used some double sided tape that is used to stick emblems/badges on cars. I put the tape in the hole, around the perimeter, and then carefully put the center cap on making sure to keep the tape between the center cap edge and the perimeter of the hole. I held it in place for a while and it seems to be sticking just fine -- after nearly 2,000 miles and through all kinds of weather (hot, dry, humid, rain, etc.). Don't know what the larger center caps are like, but this method might be worth a try.
I ended up buying a set of 4 off ebay for my '99 XJR because it was missing one when I bought it. I've got three left and I don't have the car anymore. If I remember correctly, it was about $35 for the set.

Mike,
What's the best way of removing these caps without breaking the tabs?
I am thinking of ordering some of the Mina Gallery ones as a little dress up.
I'm not sure there's a good way to remove them without breaking the tabs, except to be very careful and to do it from the inside. The tabs just seem to get brittle and break off no matter what you do -- poor design, IMHO. I have an old Mazda Miata that has BBS wheels and the center caps come loose and fall off and cost a fortune to replace -- so it's not just the Jaguar.
Anyone got a tip to remove the center cap from the outside without scratching the rim. Trying to remove a defective unit, tried inserting a small jeweler's screwdriver tool in each hole & pulling only to bend/break the tools.
