This seems to be a "special" hose. Mine finally failed and everything common I could find to replace it with was too large an outside diameter. Since I couldn't find anyone that said they had it (my local Jag dealer likes newer stuff than my 99) I ended up using the fat stuff and leaving off the plastic cover that went over the wiper arm nut as that was just causing trouble for the new hose as the arm pivoted across the windshield, even though I drilled a larger hole for the new hose.
Could be all that's left on shelves is old stock that's lost some of its flexibility over the years
yes, the hose has a special diameter . I have tried to use the generic hose from autozone but it would not fit . that is how jaguar gets you . 22 freaking dollars for a few inches of rubber

I've had good luck with the 3/32" I.D. silicone Glo-Fuel tubing for model planes, available at your neighborhood hobby store. Extremely flexible and durable.
The standard design is terrible. I'm an engineer and when I saw this on my 2002 XJ8 (which of course was broken when I bought it used) I just wondered how in the world Jaguar let this design get into production. All the stress is focused on one little spot in the tube. I fixed mine with a generic tube but I did a better job of strain relief by routing it not through the bottom. See pictures attached, The yellow bit is shrink-wrap tubing I used to ensure the hose stayed on but I probably could have found black shrink wrap. The yellow was what I had lying around that was the right size.
Be sure when you close the hood, the hose isn't looped as to where it gets caught by the hood. Noticed mine does this from time to time. They surely won't last being pinched like that.
