Default Changing Valve Cover Gaskets

I'm starting the process of changing the valve cover gasketa. I had oil in my plug wells. My question is on the driver's side how do I get the tube from radiator to fill tank off the radiator? I see a clip just not sure how to disconnect without breaking it. Any help would be awesome.

There is a tool, but two small screwdrivers will work.

+1 on the special tool. Take a very good look around at the other connections on the engine and you may be able to locate the tool. Unless some mechanic used it and didn't return it to the engine bay. On my XJ8 I founf it a a connection near the throttle body. On my XK8 it was right out front on the part load breather hose.
I will post a photo when I get back to my home computer.

Great. I'll look for the tool. Or two small screwdrivers it will be.

Here is a picture of the tool on my XK8. I found that in a pinch a pair of needle nose pliers will work. You put them in and then pull the handles apart rather than clamping. You just need to push the 2 ears outward. Also, check the O-ring that is inside the fitting and make sure it is still soft. If it isn't change it out before reinstalling or you will have a leak.

Vern, I've been using the screwdriver method to remove these fittings. I didn't know the tool was already on the car. I learn something new about Jaguar's on this forum everyday. What a time saver. Thanks again.

J just one more question on valve covers. I know that when you put them on you tighten from top to bottom middle to out. Does it matter taking them off? Or is there a preferred sequence?

There is no required sequence for removal. You are correct on the tightening sequence. They are torqued to 10Nm. I usually run them down evenly by hand and then torque to 5Nm and go back around to 10Nm. While you have them off check carefully for cracks around the bolt holes. I encountered that helping a few friends will oil leaks. You also need some red RTV sealant for the small split lines where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head.

Replace all 28 bolt seals because that is key to keeping the valve cover gaskets leak free.

+1 on those bolt seals, they get dry and hard from engine heat. I was also able to find the bolt sequence and the diagram showing where the sealant goes. I don't know why one of my tech manuals didn't have it and one did. They are attached.

Yes I bought the complete kit. Will replace all the existing parts with the new ones. So I need the red sealant for the gasket not the blue? Thanks for all the help.
