Default Cleaning inside the fuel filler hatch inquiry,

Not really sure of the drain schematics there, but my plan was to dump a cup full of detergent & warm water in there, then wipe/scrub & spray to rinse. Do these drain swiftly to somewhere like inside the rear wheel fender, I don't want all the sludge, grime & fuel residue to end up on my paint.

It's really rough in there I suspect I'll be the first to clean it in a decade, if not the 1st ever.

Thanks

The drain hose dumps directly onto the ground, just behind the rear subframe

Pull the little grille out and clean that, then use an old paint brush to remove the heavy stuff and a damp sponge to do the rest. It's not ideal to flood the area, because if your fuel cap isn't sealing tightly you could end up with soapy water in your petrol tank. Keep the grille clean and the drain clear and you shouldn't have any more problems.

Not to hijack this thread but, I have a problem with mildew growing on the underside of the filler lid. Before spraying some mildew killer, does anybody have any other recommendations? I didn't want to potentially hurt the paint with the mildew killer. I have tried just washing it but no results.

Make a paste of baking soda & white distilled vinegar spread it on, let set for a few hours, wipe clean. Hydrogen peroxide works as well.

No problem I had a white Infiniti I pulled from storage that looked like a fuzzy green swamp creature.

I think I used a Clorox solution when I had that problem. Although I liked the look and feel of the gas filler up high, it was a stupid design -- a catch for all sorts of stuff: rain water, pollen (we get a lot pollen in the US South), bugs . . .

I hit all my cars occasionally with a bleach solution -- use a small tank sprayer. Makes it easy to hit around the trunk/hood, underbody and roof rails. .... I use a rag to wipe down the inner door lips. Do it just before you give the car a good wash. Only needs to be on car for a short time .. flood the area and clean as normal.

Must be careful not to get it on the inside -- the small spray bottle keeps it controlled.
