Unhappy Climate control display backlight

2001 XJR, the backlight on my climate control display decided not to come on anymore. What can I do to rectify the situation? Do I have to replace the entire unit? Can the display be removed and a new one installed? Is it repairable? Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

Default Backlight problems

This sound like an issue that arises with the xj6, as it did on my 97 x300. The problem on mine was sorted by removing the centre ski slope in the console and then removing the display, held in place ( on mine at least) by 4 easily visible screws. The electrical connection consists of a ribbon type connector, with a row of contacts embedded in it. This slots into the rear of the display unit and is where the problem usually exists. Clean the electrical connections on both the strip and the unit and then using a strip of cardboard as a packer, refit the connector. The strip of cardboard takes up the slack between the connection and may need a little trial and error to get it right. Try it out before final reassembly!! Once sorted, the card can be held in place with some tape. Hope this is clear but will become more so when you have a look see.

Alright, found the problem: It's two "Neo Wedge LED bulbs" type B (T4)that illuminate the screen. They are available at http://autolumination.com/74.htm or through the dealership.
