Default Complete list of hoses for Jaguar X308 XJR XJ8

JCP hose list, heater and engine cooling, expansion tank bleed hoses, XJ Series from (V)812317 to (V)F59525 (X308)

I read through a number of topics and posts about replacing all heater and coolant hoses on an X308 Jaguar (and other Jaguars) as preventative maintenance Someone posted a useful list in one topic for the S-Type. I struggled to find a similar list for the X308 so here's the complete list I put together as part of my Jaguar long-term maintenance schedule. I mostly used Jaguar Classic Parts website for diagrams and part numbers. I don't have the Jaguar part number CD (yet ... it was ordered but hasn't arrived).

Total I found was 19 hoses for supercharged and 14 hoses for non-supercharged. Not including metal pipes or airconditioning refrigerant hoses. If replacing all hoses, you'll need to order more parts depending on which hoses get replaced. Search for TSB 303-48 (there's a PDF link in the forum somewhere) for heater hose replacement list of additional parts (inlet manifold gaskets and throttle body gasket seem to be the most important items). You might also need valve cover gaskets and o-rings.

For my XJR (2000 MY, 160,000 km in Apr 2015) I bought 16 out of the 19 hoses for replacement. Either Dayco, Gates, Eurospare (UK), URO (USA) manufacturers. Possibly one or two genuine Jaguar OE. I'll try and keep an eye on the 3 hoses I didn't replace (one small SC hose, the big octopus heater hose, one more heater hose). The logic I used was if a hose was not available from an alternative supplier (URO, Gates, etc), or difficult to find from a large supplier, then it was more likely to have a low failure rate. If it was cheap then I'd get one anyway, if expensive or difficult to find I'd leave the original one on the car for now and consider replacing in a year or two.

Where I live, if the octopus hose fails, apparently I could just disconnect the heater since it's so rarely used.

Most comments I found regarding a hose replacement maintenance schedule suggested replacing them at intervals of 5-6 years. The second most common comment I found seemed to be replace if leak found or hose breaks.

In 15 years the only hose which failed on my Jaguar that I knew of was one of the bleed hoses from the expansion tank, about a year ago. I owned the car for the past 12 years and I don't think any hoses were replaced in the first 3 years. I have another car I bought new in 1999. After 16 years it still has all original hoses, none have leaked or failed or been replaced (but I'll replace them all now).

Some questions

1. Has anyone ever had a hose fail due to age on a car less than 5 years old? Less than 10 years old? Less than 15 years old?

2. Has anyone had one of these hoses fail or leak on their X308 Jaguar?
... Octopus heater hose (#7 in list): MNC6733AE or MNE6733BA for XJR SC cars, MNC6733AC for NA XJ8 cars.
... Hose from water valve to water pump (#8 in list): MNC6742AC or MNC6742AB for XJR or XJ8 cars.
... Water hose from supercharger to intercooler (short, small hose) (#19 in list): NCC7723AA for XJR cars only.

3. How do different OEM or aftermarket hose brands rate for durability vs OE? Aside from URO, Eurospare, Dayco, Gates, I didn't find any other brands for Jaguar cars.

Default A box of Jaguar hoses

A couple of pictures of what a box full of hoses looks like ...

All hoses have been fitted. Hose clips were reused but got a low coolant warning because one of them wasn't tight enough, so all the supercharger hose clips were replaced with the screw-tighten type, new ones. Left the other reused hose clips on hoses. So far no more low coolant warning.

I think for these hoses, Jaguar TSB service bulletin or instructions say removal of inlet manifold is necessary, and lists various gaskets and seals which need to be replaced as a result.

The mechanic replaced these hoses without removing inlet manifold. He did remove the supercharger outlet duct on top of the motor though but didn't replace any gaskets. So now I have some spare gaskets and seals if anyone is in Dubai and wants to buy them cheap. Not all the ones from the Jaguar list, some of them were expensive or difficult to find so I didn't bother.

The Dayco hose is not a correct fitting (says my mechanic). Too long and bore is too large. I measured circumference of hose on car (is original Jaguar part, labeled MNC4505BC) and Dayco hose. Dayco hose is larger by about 5-10 mm.

Amazon US and UK sites both have a listing for URO equivalent. I'll update this when I get a new hose to compare again.

A nice helpful post, did your guy change the hoses under the supercharger, we've got various companies in the U.K. that supply silicon upgrades, and they're fit and forget. The octy hose generally fails at connections not the hose itself. The quality of hoses on these cars really impressed me the only one I see that always needs changing is the elbow running from the water pump, the bulge hose!

Yes, I think. Those are heater hoses? Or something else?

Only ones he didn't change were:
a couple of bleed hoses I changed last year (one failed at the connection to overflow tank),
the octopus hose (price scared me away from buying it)
a small elbow hose on the supercharger duct or manifold or something
the upper radiator hose (was incorrect fit)
one more I hadn't supplied (I forget why)

I saw a bit of information about that, but didn't research that very much.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. Maybe there's a repair job can be done rather than replacement. Or just disconnect it altogether if it fails since I don't really need the heater.

Ah. And that might be the one I got the wrong part for ... oh well I hope to have the correct one soon enough.

Yes, I think the old hoses still looked in pretty good shape ... to my very untrained eye.

Knock on wood, all of my hoses were in great shape when replaced except for the stubby from the NA tst tower to the crossover (bulging); the upper radiator blew off (it was new) when ai temp dropped to zero degrees two winters ago (radiator inlet tube contraction); overflow tube when I screwed up and used it as a handrest.

I have replaced all but the heater hoses and the octopus.

Avery useful post, thanks.

I have a small leak in one or two of the main heater hoses in my 2002 XJR (101,500 miles) and I see how buried into the engine they appear to hide and I just wonder how many other things need to come out first to get to them, especially to the top end connections. Scares me just to think about it. I just wonder what an independent shop's labor would be to change those hoses because I'm not really looking forward to that kind of pain. Or, it isn't really that bad?

OK, if somebody reading this post has actually replaced the 2 main heater hoses on the X308 XJR, could you please share some of the highlights, or perhaps a "better-after-doing-it" way to go about? I would really like to do it myself, but it looks very tough. Not only that, but now I have had a shop look at it and he agreed that it will be a tough, at least a whole day job, somewhere over $1K. That's a lot of money when the parts (hoses) can be purchased for about $150.00. Some advice, tips, or word of "it's not really as bad as it looks" would be welcome...
Thank you.
Cheers,

I think there are many threads on replacing the heater hoses. Even some Youtubes. Do a Google search. minimally, you will need to remove the intake manifold and S/C.

Wow! Intake manifold and the S/C. Man, no wonder the money they want to do this. Well, yes, I'll do a little more research on what else is typically involved and determine whether I have it to do it myself or simply pay to get it done. Thanks, Jim.
