Default coolant level sensor leak, 2001 xj8

i just replaced my level coolant level sensor with one i removed from a donor from pull a part. it works fine but now i have a leak at the level senor. i knew it was just too easy. all i did was pull the old old one and then snapped the replacment one in. was i supposed to install an oring or other seal that i didn't know of?

thanks

The tube that the sensor is installed into is an integral part of the tank. The tank should not leak even without a sensor in place. Old plastic is subject to cracking especially when motivated by the hot/cold, pressure/vacuum applied to the coolant tank.

Hi
You might be able to buy a new cooling expansion tank for $177 (Gaudin Jaguar parts online) if it is available - they show a list price of $218. Part number is MNC4400AC. Ebay has used ones in the $190 to $250 range.
