Default Cost Of Routine Complete Brake Job For 2006 XJ8L

Can anyone give me a ballpark cost for front and rear brakes on a 2006 XJ8L? I Won't be going to a dealer. I can't call the shop I normally go to because I'm out of the country and they don't have an email contact on their site. Are Jag parts a must? Another member to me some aftermarket pads are fine and cut down on dust. Any quotes and opinion are much appreciated. Thanks!

Easy job to do yourself. New pads and rotors all around about $250 at Rock Auto. New rotors aren’t much more than having used ones turned.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I might recruit a friend to help because I'm not confident as I have never done brakes. That said, would you have a ballpark figure from an independent shop. I would not go to a dealer. Thanks.

It’s not hard. 2 out 5 on the skill level. Just need three wrenches/sockets. 13,15 and 17 mm I think.
For brakes, no need to go to an indie, your local PepBoys/Midas is fine. Most shops will let you bring your own parts.

While I have done pads before (and would not be uncomfortable doing rotors too), must work in our townhouse parking lot, so I take most things to a local Indy who has worked on my Jags for years. It’s generally $500 an axle, though I can bring my own parts if I want. Besides, until I can get back into the gym to do strength training, I’m not sure at nearly 72 I could lift one of those tires! I had only gotten to the point of being strong enough to get the spare out of the trunk when the virus hit and I quit going to the gym.

Thanks for the reply. So if it's under a grand total I'm doing well? I can identify. I'm 65 and an avid weight trainer, I too stopped going to tbe gym over a year ago. I've overspent on rip off dumbbell prices and we now lift at home.

Just a suggestion, if you’re comparing prices for pads and rotors. Check R1 right now, I bought my brakes today from there and got 25% off my whole order.

I believe the code was TRACK25 but if that’s not right just let me know and I will double check what it is
