My 2000 VDP has 90k miles of tough New England driving. The roads here are terrible and my front bushings and shocks are shot. Sometimes when I run over a bump that hits both front wheels at the same time, the entire dashboard shakes so hard that it looks like it could break. My car seems to have only started doing this in the past 5000mile. My mechanic said my engine mounts are on their way out.

Could this shaking be the suspension or engine mounts? Or is the chassis rigidity of the XJ8 pretty low? I have heard that the XK convertibles have a weak chassis that flexes, so is this also the case for the XJ8? My BMW 5-series seems to have a stiffer chassis.
