Default Cruise Control

Hi folks,

This has probably already been answered somewhere so feel free to show me the url -

My XJ8 does not have cruise control. Is it possible to retro fit and if so whats the best way to do it?

TIA

John

Welcome to the forum Cyber!

The early cars handled cruise with both hardware and software and then in the '99-'00 MY time frame changed to software only so it would help to know what is your model year.

The mods would also appreciate it if you would go to the new member forum to introduce yourself.

Your forum member page - about me section, says you have a 2000 XJ8.

The Vin code SAJJJALG3CH877397 in the previous post seems to be for a 1987 XJ40 -
code breakdown:
SAJ (mfg code - Jaguar)
J (marque code - Jaguar)
J (code for model type -XJ40)
A (code for trim class - baseline)
L (code for body - 4 door saloon)
G (code for engine - 2.9 L B)
3 (code for transmission - Auto RHD)
C (code for model- AJ6 coupe and convertible / XJ Series III
H (code for plant - Actually, > 1987, this is supposed to be emissions equipment)
Last 6 digits (code for serial - 877397)

I have an 1998 xj8 but cannot find cruise control on the gear console, could it have been moved or just not fitted?
thanks for any input from this golden website as usual.

If you don't have the resume/cancel/set switches on the right side of the steering wheel and the cruise button at the bottom of the J gate, then it isn't fitted.

Hope this helps,

Jim.

Here is a JPEG file of the 1998-1999 Jaguar XJ Drivers Handbook page on Cruise Control:

Note the "(where fitted)" phrase.

Default cruise control

just as I thought! so I will just have to swap it over from my xj8 sport, as in the reading it should not be to complicated.
A big thanks to all that responded.

But it will be complicated. Your ECM has to control it, but you don't have that function programmed, and you don't have the vacuum reservoirs behind the fender liners, or the vacuum switch on the throttle body

Did you also transfer the clockspring, or did the cc wires to the ECM already exist from the original clockspring? I know the cars were often wired for options that were not installed.

Talking cruise control

This is to RJ237, Hi mate, I haven't a clue yet as I am about to start the engine transplant next week and the car is not at my home address but I will post my findings when I come to refit/ try to refit the cruise into the basic xj8 from the sport.
