Default Cruise Control and Radio Buttons

I have had a 2001 XJR for almost 2 months now. The knowledge on this site has helped me fix the climate control back lighting, J Gate illumination, and the ever popular Abs and Track Control not available error. For this I am extremely grateful.

Before I tear into the steering wheel mounted cruise and radio buttons to fix their lack of illumination, I thought that I should ask if those buttons are supposed to illuminate?

Are they supposed to light up?

so, that saves you some frustration ...
The switches behind the wheel for fog lights and ODO are supposed to be illuminated though.

I am happy to avoid the frustration and move on to other issues. But doesn't it seem strange that a high-end car like the Jag would not light the steering wheel controls?

My wife's 04 Xj8 does have lighted steering wheel switches so it looks like Jaguar corrected the oversight.

Thanks for the info.
