which is cylinder is coil F ? P0356 P0328 P1111
P0356 P0328 P1111... which is cylinder is coil F ?
I just pulled the trouble codes off the 1999 XJ8, early AJ27
Have a misfire in one cylinder.
First i see P0356, says "Ignition coil F , primarysecondary circuit malfunction.
Is "F"= cylinder 6??.. where is a diagramto see which is cylinder 6?
What i think happned was little bit of silicone greaseentered the thrpoottle as i was replacing the part load breather tube, since then i there has been amisfire. Initally it was erratic, comeand go, now its always there witht herestricted performance message..
This silicone grese as small as it was may have fouled upthe spark plugs.. .. could a foled upspark plug be the cause of the P0356?.
The other likely cause is that a little moisture enteredthe ign coil area when i was cleaningthe cam covers..this would be a liklydirect cause for a busted coil
Ialso have P0328, Knock sensor 1 circuithigh input
and P1111 Fault detection not availiable, or manufcturers specs etc..
Advise appreciated.
best

Im is Sydney Australia, right hand side drive here... numbering will be the same imo.
I take it the #6 is on the left hand side (as viewed from sitting inside car facing forward), 2nd one from the front going to the windshield.
My knock sensor error was a "stored" error P0328..... How old can this error be? Could the last owner have had this sensor replaced and have forgotten to clear the code?
I will swap coils , see if I get the same cylinder in error, that will give an idea about whether wiring to the coil is a problem or the oil itself. I will then clear the codes before, see it that knock sensor error comes up.
Advice still appreciated.
best regards
Peter

I swapped the coil (cylinder 6) with cylinder 5 and even cleaned
the spark plug in cylinder 6 (6 was the problem coil).
The error message after a rescan with the OBD2 was now coil E ie
cylinder 5.
So it seems the coil is bad, I will replace it with a new one.
The OBD2 set up costs just $12 for an ELM327 .. the software I
used was Easy OBD2 which is free. I have the Bluetooth ELM327 but
you can also have a hard wired ELM327 but that costs more than
the $12 I spent buying my ELM327.
That's right, for $12 I can diagnose a problem that any mechanic
would charge big $$$ for.
All owners of these cars should have the ELM327 Bluetooth version.
You may have to buy a $20 Bluetooth adapter for you USB socket if
you PC doesn't have Bluetooth and your away.Or you can just hook it up to your Android smart phone with the free Torque app.
How long do the stored codes get stored for on the ECU
Best regards

This is where codes P1000 and P1111 come in handy. You will always see one or the other of these. P1000 indicates OnBoard Monitoring Test have NOT been completed since the last memory clear. P1111 indicates that OnBoard Monitoring Tests are complete.

Make sure you didn't get water down one of the spark plug holes. I had that after topping up the coolant and had misfires and restricted performance. Had to blow the water out with compressed air and clean the coil tube.
Where are you in Sydney ?
Last week a set of coils sold on ebay for $52, I was going to bid but missed the end date. 2nd hand of course but at that price a real bargain.

That diagram is helpful but it is, in fact, not completely correct, in that the DTC numbers given by at least SOME OBD scanners follow the "Alternate V 8 Cylinder Numbering" as opposed to the ISO, which the document states is "Used by engine management software for DTCs and datalogger".
Case in point, Peter (osyris) pulled coil number 6, which was his reported failure, and switched with coil 5 and the OBD report followed the coil. I am pretty sure he was using the "Alternate" numbering and not the ISO numbering and it gave the expected response.
Also JTIS defines the DTC codes with both the Bank/Position scheme and the sequential numbering scheme matching the "Alternate" diagram.
So, my conclusion is even Jaguar cannot get it straight and give non ambiguous cylinder numbers in their own documentation. Anyone attempting to use a OBD DTC code to find which cylinder is referenced should follow the JTIS documentation and use the code number rather than the OBD DTC included cylinder number. The JTIS documentation clearly uses the "Alternate" diagram and is non ambiguous within itself.

Yes I do all my jag parts from the UK.. everything from there is exactly 1/2 price compared to local supply... The local suppliers incidently keep no stock so they end up just buying from the UK and you still have to wait the same time for delivery... if not longer.
Example.. Akebono brake pads from Repco I got mine in 2 weeks from the US for $Au270 all up both front and rear, repco wanted $370 and It would take 4 weeks to arrive because they would ship from the US to Melbourne (to the local distributor)and then Melbourne to sydney. No doubt there price is costing the Sydney to Melb runaround, why not just ship directly to sydney.
These companies are doing business on a 1950's model they want local rep's local distributors.. the old boys club... but with the internet they are priceing themselves out of the market. They realise this , so they don't want to invest in any inventory.
Same story for parts from the UK... Always buy direct from the US or UK.

Ebay berksjags
XJ8 XJR XK8 XKR IGNITION COIL 4 PIN LNE1510AB
This is the one for mine and its a 2000 AJ27
The cost per coil is £36.95, but other sellers have complete sets (8) which work out at a lot less per single coil when averaged out.
Postage is extra of course. Hope this helps,
Richy.
