i need some help, i have stored my jaguar in the garage, the battery is now dead and i cant get the car out of the garage. i have tried to put the car in neutral to move it, but since the battery is dead i cant get the car in neutral. i believe this is some type of security for the car, but is there someway to dismantal the security so i can put the car in neutral and push it? my sons car is stuck behind the jaguar and we cant move either now.

yes, sorry, its a jaguar xj8, 1999.

 

There is a star shaped "screw" next to (or above) the shifter- undo that, then stick a screwdriver or key in there and it will override the lock switch for the shifter.

 

thank you i will check that out and let you know how it goes, its dark now so i wont be able to check it out till tomorrow

 

Its pretty straightforward... flashlight and a flat head screwdriver should do the trick.

 

worked great, thank you. i didnt mention that the opening to the garage was behind the dog kennel and that had to be moved before i could access the garage/barn. that is why i had to wait till it was light out. thanks again, i was able to move the jag and get to my sons volvo.
