Default Dead Pedal?

One of the things about the X308 driving position that I can't seem to get used to is the lack of a dead pedal. Is there an after market one made that can be installed, or am I the only one that has noticed this?

You can get kits to put a pedal cover on the carpet area, if that's what you're looking to do. One somewhat expensive option is this Jaguar XJ8 & XJR Custom Pedal Upgrade 3pcs kit (1998-2003 models) - Mina Gallery Inc but I know some members here have had kits from elsewhere for cheaper.

smtguy,

Your car probably already has the mounting points for a dead pedal. Jaguar called it the "footrest." For the XJ40 the part number was BCC5162, and that part might actually fit an X308 since they were built on the same monocoque. Gaudinjaguarparts.com shows the part still available for $35.44:

Footrest | Genuine Jaguar | BCC5162 : Genuine Jaguar Parts at Wholesale Prices | Jaguar of Las Vegas

And lelderautogroup.com shows it available at $32.40:
https://parts.elderautogroup.com/oem...otrest-bcc5162

I think the rubber cover and mounting fasteners might have to be purchased separately. On the XJ40 there's a long screw, a washer and a spacer.

You could also search for a good used assembly from a salvaged X308.

Cheers,

Don

All X308s have "dead pedals" or foot rests. They should have a rubber grip on it, but occasionally it slips off and gets thrown away.

Thank you everyone for your replies and especially Stu for the picture. I don't have anything like that in my car. I have never driven any other X308s than mine, so I just thought that they were "all that way". If anyone has any extra ones, I am in the market!

OK, I looked again and what is being called a dead pedal does exist in my car, however it is not even close to the same height as the pedals. Since my left foot never touched it, i thought it wasn't there. This now makes me wonder: Are the pedals in an X308 adjustable for distance?

No, not adjustable.

What is wrong with the factory foot rest? I don't understand why you feel you need your left foot to sit at the same height as the other pedals, as you shouldn't be using it whilst driving.
If you go on eBay there are over a thousand results for "dead pedal" so I'm sure you'd be able to find something there you could modify and fit to your car if you wanted to.

Stu, that is the issue.

The only way my left foot will ever reach the foot rest is if i move the seat closer; much closer. If I do that then my right leg is bent more at the knee; the pedals feel just too close, and the steering wheel (adjusted all the way in) feels like it is nearly under my chin. Anatomically, I am average build 5'10" normal length legs and slightly longer than average arms.

I guess I tend to like more of the Italian arms and legs out driving position. All this being said, I think you are correct, and I need to figure out a dead pedal extension.

Thank you,

You can have one made in aluminum, Ultimate Pedals did mine, I had them mill an insert for an "R" emblem in mine.
