Re: 2003 XJ8 -- When you click the remote or push the button on the dash to open the boot, should the lid pop open or just stay shut but not locked?

My mother in law's S-Type (also '03) pops the boot up when the remote is pushed (don't know about the dash but I'd guess it's the same) -- is that how my XJ8 should work, too?

I'm okay with it the way it is, I was just curious...

 

My 02 XJ8VP releases but does not pop up.

 

It doesn't pop up for the benefit of London underworld gangsters, they don't want every Tom, Dick & Harry seeing the goods or the body in the boot! LOL

I think ones that open all the way are a security risk personally, if I accidentally press either buttons on the XJ8 the boot doesn't look obviously open, whereas on the S-Type my work bag and tools could easily be lifted by a passing crim.

 

So are you saying that the boot doesn't pop open "by design?"

 

My XJ6 Series I, Series II, XJ12, Daimler VdP, XJ40, X300, X308 and XK8 all had boots that just released and didn't pop open. My current XK8 is the same.

Deduction = it's "by design"
