Default EGR valve

I was doing some spring cleaning today (98 XJR) - cleaned the MAF and throttle body (no biggie), and also the EGR valve, which took a bit more time. After putting everything back together, the car starts OK and then dies immediately. Is this a sign that I may have screwed up my EGR valve somehow? I not sure what the symptoms are for a shot EGR valve. It was horribly dirty with carbon deposits - now it's clean, but I'm stuck in the garage.

I'm pretty sure no one was losing any sleep over this post - nevertheless, I thought it was worth posting the outcome. It turns out the 'quick-release' T-connector for the part-load breather had come off (where it connects under the throttle body), so the car was stalling immediately due to a large vacuum leak. For some reason it's not latching on as it should, even thought the connector is not broken. I just pushed it in as far as it would go, and that seemed to do it.

o rings for part load breather at T conector probaby swollen or damaged
remove conector inspect o rings, if ok use some spray silicone on the o rings and then reinstall
make sure its fullyseated to avoid furtherissues down the road
