Hi

Looking on SNG Barrett for a replacement for a missing endcap for the roof mounted handles in the rear of my new 1998 XJ8

They sell chrome and stainless - same price (about 9.50). Does the car originally come with chrome or stainless?

Now here's a repair this newbie can handle! (I presume!!!)

I would replace it with the same as you already have. Chromium Plated steel will be very 'shiny' and the stainless should be a brushed satin type finish.

the part catalog list 3 end caps, colored plastic, chrome and SS.

I believe that only the VDP came with chrome ( chromed plastic to be exact) and the others with plastic.

As for the SS I believe that they never have been available or either manufactured . And yes they are listed.
Same for the "leather" surround on the gearshift.
Listed but never made, always vinyl.

 

Shoot I just ordered the stainless ones. We'll see whether they match. Only 9 bucks. Maybe the ones I have on my base model 1998 XJB-L are stainless colored plastic!! Should have taken one off and really looked at it before ordering!!
