Ok so I accidentally ordered the rod bearings for the 3.2l v8 instead of the ones for the 4.0l
Are there any difference between the 2 bearings other than part numbers? Or should I send them back and get the ones for the 4.0l? I was getting ready to assemble the lower half of the engine when I found the part numbers didn’t match

 

Get the correct bearings for your engine - have you cross referenced the bearing colour codes from your engine number?

 

I have cross referenced the color codes. It’s just that I was looking at the wrong section of the book when ordering the rod bearings and bolts. Guess I’ll be waiting another week till I get the right ones

 

Well it’s been over a year. I have been working on it off and on but I’m in the home stretch. Here are some pictures.

Intake manifold with new fuel injectors installed and removed and installed again because you can’t just put the intake on only. It needs to be installed with the throttle body and elbow go figure. Also power steering pump/ a/c compressor/ alternator including all of the brackets for them

Wire harness. Crank pulley. Belt

 

Spent a long time just cleaning the intake cause oil everywhere. And all of the stuff that went on the outside of the engine cause of all the oil leaks. Had to get a new starter because when I was removing the small wire on the second post that post came out of the starter with it. The next thing I need to do is clean the outside of the transmission and the engine bay before I put everything back in while I wait for a o-ring and a clip that goes from the brake booster to the throttle body elbow.
also my sister in laws aunt got a 1998 Xj8l from a divorce. Guess who got that wonderful blue thing that sat for 3 years And had to replace the fuel pump twice because I kinked a fuel line the first time. At least it was free. Now I need to juggle getting that car finished so I can sell it.

Nice to see you are getting things back together! What did you do with the pistons, cleaning and put new rings? What about wrist pins?

What did you do to the valves and seats?

 

Pistons were taken apart and cleaned. I replaced 2 valves that were not sealing 1 intake 1 exhaust. All the valves were lapped. New piston rings new main/rod bearings. I still had cross hatching in each cylinder wall and no gouging at all. I cleaned and oiled the cylinder walls when I reinstalled everything.
so far I only lost one transmission bolt and the nut that holds the oil dip stick tube. I found a bolt locally for the transmission. Will pickup the nut for the oil dipstick tube tomorrow right now I’m cleaning up before push the car in for the install

 

It goes in tomorrow. I won’t be able to start it this weekend do to some parts on back order. So I’m going to replace the hose that connects to like 5 things. So that will be it for today. I might delete the middle muffler since I have it out but I’m not sure yet. Might wait on that till later.
