Engine Swop

XJ8 1998 (R) 3.2 sport v8. 135000miles
At the moment I'm about to have changed all chains and a cog in my V8, (Tensioner failure) . A few valves are bent too on one bank.However my garage has floated the idea that i swap my engine with a recon one from another car. It has done less miles and i basically buy the whole car and my garage do swap. It would work out about the same in cost. ( I also get to strip out other stuff too)
Now my question....
I have not seen the car yet , as my garage are going to check it out in a few days , however I'm told it's an earlier model/ car ( around 93/94) but has same engine. Is that possible for the year. And if the engine is not exactly same due to updates etc....will it fit/work?
I'd be gratefull for any answers. Obviously my garage will do checks but I like to discuss things and have some input so i can weight up all issues.

The model years are different in the U.S., and we only got the 4.0 L version of the V8. My vague understanding of your market is that you won't find a Jaguar V8 in any model year earlier than 1996.

And in England, everything was one model year earlier than that. Since the original poster has a 3.2, I assumed he was in the home country...where I believe there were 1996 XK8's, and 1997 XJ8's
