engine wont shut off

I repaired a 2000 xj8 for a customer who was in a front end collision. At one point during the repairs we started the car and then the car wouldn't turn off. We turn off the ignition and pull out the key. the dash and stereo turn off, but the engine stays running. the only way to turn off the engine is to pull the fuel pump relay and it runs out of fuel in about 20 seconds and shuts off. has anyone ever heard of this or know what the problem could be?

My guess is you did not repair it right.

very funny,

at least it starts!!

There was no mechanical damage, but we did weld the new upper radiator support.

-we also disconnected the battery during welding and reconnected all the ground wires correctly

Did you try replacing the ignition relay?

You're pulling the fuel pump relay in the trunk to shut the motor off correct?

I can only imagine, that your problem is in the ignition rack, i mean the key assembly at the dashboard. How it got damaged i don't know.But check first that direction.
