Default Fan staying on full blast once the car starts

Brought the car test drove it went lovely came back opened the bonnet noticed the fan was running thought nothing of it
Just wondering after reading a few links is one of the main reasons because the thermostat needs changing ? It's a XJ executive 2002
Never went above half temp
And is it worth doing the water pump at the same time

Meter your temperature switch with the vehicle off and cold. You shouldn't have a continuity, and if you do, there's your culprit.

Reading other bits on the website it wouldn't be because the water pump or thermostat is faulty

Definitely not saying it is, but it doesn't hurt to meter it to eliminate it as a possibility.

The title of the thread suggests the fan runs as soon as you start the engine. If that is true, is the AC on?

Or do you mean the fan runs for a short time after the engine is shut off? My XK8 does that, but it's part of the ECU programming if the engine is up to operating temp.

Can also be a faulty sensor. Mine was thought to be dieing but it wasn't. Fitted a new one and the fan was on on a cold engine... Cold engine doesn't need cooling...
