Default Found ZF5HP24 AT Esso Fluid at $12.35/1 liter bottle

Hi
I just researching AT fluid prices for the ZF5HP24 transmission on the internet and found site that sells these AT fluids that are suppose to be compatiable with the Esso Fluid for $12.35 per 1 liter bottle (retail price is $19).

It says it is Volkwagon part# G-052-162-A2 / G052162A2.
But it also says it is manufactured by FEBI.

Here is a JPEG of the webpage showing the Fluid volkwagon part number and price of $12.35:

Found ZF5HP24 AT Esso Fluid at .35/1 liter bottle-zf5hp24-fluid-low-price-esso-internet.jpg

I found the on the same website the Esso compatiable BMW AT fluid and price of $16.02.

Found ZF5HP24 AT Esso Fluid at .35/1 liter bottle-zf5hp24-fluid-low-price-esso-2-internet.jpg

I found this other information on another website when I searched for FEBI AT fluid: 1-LITER TRIPTRONIC (Compatible with OEM part number: G05-502-5A2 / G055025A2).
Is these the same as Esso AT product or just other AT fluids that are compatible with it?

Well, that is something that needed to be discussed here on the forum.

They have free Fedex ground shipping for orders of $65 (and above?). Their contact information says they are located in Colorado.
Here is the website links:
VW/Audi ATF ATF1: Semi-Synthetic, High Performance Fluid (1 Liter) G052162A2 - RM European Auto Parts

BMW ATF Auto Transmission Fluid (1 Liter) Equivalent to: ESSO LT 71141 NOTE: Only for "Blue Tag" transmission 83229407807 - RM European Auto Parts

I put this information in a new thread because I thought it would get more notice than buried in a older thread.

Does anyone know anything about this FEBI AT product???

Here is another update (at 5:05 PM):
Quote from a post on the VW Passat Forum -
Febi Bilstein / Pentosin (insert generic brand here) that can be looked up via the VW OEM part number all are merely repackaged bottles of EssoLT 71141 which is the OEM fluid.

Could this be right?????

What do they mean, "only for blue tag transmission"?

Default Transmission mfg color tags on BMW & other vehicles

The Transmission manufacturer puts on different color tags (Blue, Green, Yellow or Black, etc) with the transmission model number and other information about the transmission. Example for 2003 BMW 528i has a blue ZF tag.

Here is an image of a ZF524 blue tag:

Bmw 323CI 07/98 -02/00 only with yellow tag

Bmw 323CI 03/00- 07/00 only with green tag

2003 BMW green plaque on transmission

some Corvettes with ZF transmission have a black tag

Autohaus sells the Febi fluid for the ZF box.

The ZF boxes are installed in all kinds of things -- from autos to construction equipment. Depending on the configuration and the shifting characteristics desired -- different modifiers are used in the fluids. With all the differences in the BMW line -- the same basic box can use different fluids depending on the build. Think of all the models and engine differences the use the same ZF box.

The Jags are all the same configuration -- my 98 used the same fluid as the later ones -- I do not believe it ever changed.

The ZF boxes use a semi - synthetic fluid. Auto manufactures and suppliers -- transmission makers -- do not refine the fluids used in cars. Working with manufactures -- new fluids are developed. So the same basic fluid can have additives added to change the shift characteristics based on the build of the same exact transmission. With electronic controls -- transmissions can be made to shift differently -- and the modifiers work with this.

So the fluid is a VW bottle may be the exact same as one in a BMW bottle or a Jaguar bottle - who knows. 71141 is the original fluid specification -- made by Esso of Europe -- now all Mobil. So if the manufacturer says you can use that spec -- technically the transmission should operate with a fluid using that specification -- but it may not have all the modifiers installed to optimize the shifting of that particular unit.

Mercedes is unique -- in that it also makes transmissions. They recently came out with an updated fluid for models in the Mercedes line. The new fluid is backward compatible to use in the older transmissions -- like the one in the Jaguar XJR's. But you can not use the older fluid in the newer cars - so even though it conforms to the same basic specification -- it obviously is not the same. And those who have installed the newer fluid report slight differences in the operation of some of the older boxes - so the recommendation is to use the old fluid while it is still available.

I wonder if 6 quarts would be enough to change fluid and filter.

Not planning on draining the convertor.

My mechanic looked at my tag today and he says its green.

The examples above both are kinda green too.

????

I just reread my earlier post -- the Febi fluid is for MB box not the ZF box. I'm thinking about transmissions too much.
