Fuel pump replacement options
Well..
Went out to the ride a week ago & wentf or a warm up in this cold south dakota weather... Boom fire up then died...
Went thru the process relays, fuses, checking power the works. Finally threw the pressure tester on the rail. & NOTHING
. & Not to mention the car ran fine when i parked it about 8hrs. earlier. So after spending so time on here (As i always do when it decides it needs something new) I looked around for pump recommendations. The Airtex E2471 seems to be the most popular... So being that i've been a side-job wrencher foryears now i remember seeing that in a cross ref. guide for a Delphi pump
Sure enough i was right model #DEL38-K4014 drop in replacement no splicing or anything (used the factory rubbers for the new pumps as well. Flow-rate & specs. match or exceed the factory specs.Just figured it'd come on & throw another option out there!!! both pumps @ the cost of $58. & a couple hours of my time.. Much thanks to everyone on here

I am no fan of Airtex products....I put 2 in my Expedition years ago within a month of the other. I put the 2nd in because it was warranty replacement. I had issue with another for the Corvette and went with Delphi.
For the Jag I went OEM... Delphi has some good products also, almost always OEM spec or better. Good price btw...

I replaced the pumps in my "R" in October. After searching around I also settled on the Delphi pump. The factory rubber isolators required very minor adjustment with an Exacto knife. I liked the fact that the electrical plugs were already attached as the idea of splices in the fuel tank was not appealing. I purchased the pumps and the filter socks from Rock Auto (much less expensive than the same thing from Auto Zone, even with shipping). I went in through the parcel shelf...I'm an old geezer and don't have a lift. I'm sure it took just as long as pulling the tank, but it was less muscle involved. And if it happens again, the top down method will be a snap.
It's strange how the factory pumps fail simultaneously for seemingly no reason. I purchased my 2002 XJR on-line from Tampa and had it trucked to the Dallas area. Since I was away from home for an extended period, a friend met the truck and drove the car into the storage building where it sat for two months. When I got back I charged the battery and tried to start. Cranked just fine, but no start.. Checked the Shrader valve on the fuel rail...nothing. The dealer wanted insane money for the pumps and the socks. If I remember correctly, Airtex didn't have a number that crossed for the "R".
By the way, I cut one of the factory socks open, and I'm fairly confident that "horsehair" sandwich construction is part of the problem. I suspect it loads up with Ethanol separated crud over time and restricts flow. Pumps overheat and seize. My 38K mile car sat around a lot as it was owned by snow birds. Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

I have an XJR-R1 and I just did this job 4 weeks ago. At the recommendation of my friend who is a former F1 mechanic, I purchased two Quantum HFP-383s. They have been used by his shop for quite some time and have a lifetime guarantee and upgraded internal materials.
Search for "Quantum Intank EFI Fuel Pump For Ford F53 (V10 6.8L) 1999-2004, Replaces Airtex E2471, E2224S"
So for I'm quite happy, power is all there, and I have peace of mind that the brand I chose comes from a my most reliable source of opinions on subjects like this.

Yeah I've heard that Quantum & Kemso's are both made in the same facility overseas... Dunno if that's true or not. They do both carry a lifetime warranty which you can't really beat. I just chose Delphi for the simple reason as I've installed them before & Never had issues with them down the road..
I agree with your theory on the pre-filter socks..Considering almost every station has Ethanol added now..After examining mine i came to the same conclusion.. Though i have not came to a reason why both pumps tend to SH*T the bed @ the same time for almost everyone. I went with different socks & they're operating with no issues.

Mine went "T" up at the same time also...you have a lot more ethanol in the midwest there SouthDak and different versions of it. I travel a bit is why I know. I think only N Carolina has more than one version of ethanol on the east coast (87 & 89)...other than Flex Fuel.
