Hi, before I start let my first introduce myself: my name is Ruben, I live in the Netherlands and I’m a former mechanic. In my spare time I like to drive and fix old cars. Somehow i always end up with a Jaguar 😂🤷🏻‍♂️. I owned a s-type, xk8 and xj8. The xj8 I sold about 3 years ago and always regretted it… until last weekend it came up for sale and I bought it back!

this leads my to my question: the car drives great, gearbox feels very fluent and healthy and runs smooth thru al the gears. The only thing i notice is that, when I’m driving on the highway (around 100km/h) and i take my foot of the accelerator for a second and immediately put it back to speed up I feel a ‘clunk ‘ going thru the car. Like I sad, I owned and drove a lot of Jaguars and the gearbox feels very healthy… anyone here had this problem before?

Well, since you have experience with Jags, you should be aware that the zf5hp has very known issues. From the "A" drum breaking to harsh shifts in 4th and 5th.
The first thing I'd do is check the fluid and filter. Odds are the person you sold it to didn't touch any service work on the trans.

What's the mileage ? Check the fluid use high quality lt71141 fluid and oem filter if you will change filter if that didn't work drive it till it dies then rebuilt or get low mileage transmission
