A generally loved icon (the random complements)
My wrangler gets complements from jeep people and some Randoms, my series 1 240z gets complements from Z guys and the I used to own one of those back in the day crowd but the XJR....
it doesn't matter age, race, status, sex, county of origin it is seemingly just a loved vehicle and even though mine is by no means perfect, it doesn't just attract stairs nearly everywhere but people of all types approaching just to say nice car.
Just a reflection from taking it out today and the random "nice car" or "really cool car" shouts from almost anywhere.

I've noted the same thing, having in the fleet a Corvette, Mustang, Supra and even a semi-exotic Lotus. I have been shocked at the attention the XJ8 receives compared to my other cars. I bought the XJ8 initially fourteen years ago as a dirt-cheap used luxo-barge to waft around in for a few months while I healed up from back surgery. My sports cars and pickup truck had briefly become intolerable except for short trips. However, I fell in love with with the XJ8 and it became my daily commuter for the next six years. It's still here, tho mostly retired since 2017. Still loved, got a nice bath today with deionized water and put back away under its car cover. Used to, I couldn't even fill it up with gas without somebody at an adjacent pump asking what year model is it or something, tho that really slowed down during COVID. Don't know if its fear of germs or Dr. Rick's commercials on Parentamorphosis, but very few people seem to want to strike up a conversation with a stranger anymore. It still gets a thumbs up from someone just about every time I take it out tho.

The Duchess always garners more than her fair share of approving looks and attention.
Especially so if it's a "rod run" weekend in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. These cars just
seem to scream..."I am a well made and beautiful automobile"

Was coming up to a T intersection where a guy in a delivery truck was waiting to take a left the other day. Saw him checking out the car and nodding to himself as I drove past.
The attention I get is usually very low key, like this, but every once in a while I get someone walking up to me thats genuinely excited about it. Its a lot of fun...my son loves when it happens and he's with me.
