headliner repair or replacement in greater Vancouver area
Hello all-
I just bought my 2nd XJR. Black, 2003 with higher kms (262,000km or 164000 miles). ( I guess I need to update my info!)
My headliner is needing attention. Can anyone recommend a good place to re-do it?
I am in the Greater Vancouver area, Coquitlam / Port Coquitlam to be more exact.
I'd prefer to find a fellow XJ owner who was had this done and had a positive experience and good results.

I’m originally from Vancouver, now living in the San Francisco Bay Area. When I shopped around for headliner replacement I got a bad case of sticker shock. The average quote was around $600. I decided to hold off.
To deal with the headliner sag temporarily I purchased decorative thumbtacks in various colors and used them to anchor the sagging fabric to the roof surface, which is porous like Styrofoam and permits the tacks to insert fully and remain in place. Only one passenger has noticed them and thought they were some kind of factory decoration! I know it sounds horrible, but really they don’t look so bad. They’re far less obvious than the sagging headliner.
BTW don’t worry about the high miles on your XJR. My 2001 has 156 thousand miles on the clock and, because I did all the required preventive maintenance years ago, is super reliable and cheap to run (except fuel economy). My independent Jag maintenance shop tells me they have X-308s running smoothly with 220 thousand miles. A Jag tuner on YouTube calls the X-308 a three hundred thousand mile car. I have no reason to doubt this. I’m retired, in my 60s, and plan to keep my XJR forever.

Quarter inch staples, from a staple gun, is the best quick fix. Works great, hardly noticeable, Much cleaner than those ugly pins. Price I got from an upholstery shop, in VA Beach, was $600 (would have been higher, except I had a XJ8L, and they would not have to bend the head board). I had better uses for $600. It was a great car, but not worth the investment in returning it - cosmetically - to new.

Had a quote today for $1100. I don’t want to staple it, pin it or glue it.
I also had an estimate for $3500 to $4000 because ‘the windshield has to come out’. Not going to go to Sovereign Motors with that quote!

Edit :
Just checked my receipt it was $240.

Still hoping someone from western Canada will put their 2 cents in.
$240 is a great deal. I saw the headliner come out via the rear doors, so when the character at Sovereign Motors said my windshield had to come out, I just nodded and backed away slowly...

A year ago I proceeded like a rich--but, maybe naive--guy and spent $1,200 at a nearby shop for the headliner replacement. I really wanted top notch, long lasting work so a few experienced Jag customers lead me to an exclusively upholstery shop in Hyannis, MA. At their prices their main work is custom--boats, yachts, airplanes and custom car work. Safelite handled the windshield replacement at the upholsterer's site. Removal, then back in four days later for installation of a new one--badly needed anyway. The overhead electrics and the sunroof drove the price up slightly, along with the owner's blood pressure(prior experience).
The owner had no concern about taking the old liner out through a door, but, his procedure and new headliner rigidity made new liners go through the windshield opening. He welcomed my presence to to watch it. I couldn't be there, but a neighbor who first recommended them was, out of friendship--said very professionally done with pad carefully maneuvered in and placed by three people.
Nothing cheap, but, it's nice knowing it's really good by others' experiences.

My last XJR needed a windshield, and a headliner. Unfortunately I never thought about doing the headliner at that time. The aftermarket glass just wasn’t as good. I would see rainbow patterns if I looked through the glass to the right, especially in sunny weather. Keep yhat in mind if you ever need a new windshield.
So far the only ‘hard’ quote was $1100 from Pacific Trim(or something similarly named) in Vancouver.

I had already removed the headliner from my XJ6 and could not figure out just how it would go back.
I spke to the people at Speedy Auto glass here in Vernon and they said there would be no problem letting me put the board in place before they put the new windshield in.
Toatal cost for the install bit was $100. That is the deductible for the car!

If you have the XJR the standard factory headliner will be difficult to re-install without breaking the headliner backing. There is a company that makes replicas that can roll up. You could try and buy one and have an installer put it in for you. Jag Headlinings
