My x308 is having a major issue with. It starting and throwing codes. I went to pick n pull to get a part for my bmw which is about a 80 mile drive there and back but on the way back it starting having electrical issues first the ac started adjusting itself before it died altogether although it came on a couple minutes later and the car started saying engine fail safe mode which after stopping and turning the car off went away. After I got home I let the car sit for a day and then attempted to install a new gear selecter which the car didn’t like and starting saying gearbox failure and restrict performance; so I reinstall the old one and the same lights flash and now the car won’t start and will only turn over but won’t start and I’m not sure if it is the electrical issues from the drive or the gear selector that won’t let the car start. Any suggestions on how to fix it
After you get the shifter back together, try putting it in neutral to see if the starter motor will spin over. If it does, check both microswitches under that shifter plate and make sure that there’s a flimsy metal tab on them. If not, they dropped down and you’ll have to hunt for it. This won’t solve your main problem but step one is to at least get the starter back operational again.
As far as your main problem after the engine is running is to check your alternator output. Should be 14.2 +\- .2.
I would get a charger on the battery for a little bit just in case and if your still having issues, maybe do a hard reset to see if there’s any improvements.
Thanks for that....I do like what Addicted posted, get it rolling over first, then we can continue. Make sure the connector and connector pins are secure, I took mine apart and had that issue.
This is for an S-Type, but the setup is the same...go to PG 40... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...G%20S_Type.pdf
Here's the electrical diagram layout for that area...

turns out I did drop one I have located it and put it back in and it turns over now but still won’t start
There's a module embossed in it and they have been known to go bad and thus when you insert your key into the cylinder, there's a reader which tells the Anti-Theft if its a good key or not. I think you can guess the rest.
Now this isn't assuredly the issue, but unless you can scan for some codes to help us help you, then that's my guess.
