Default Help! Transmission fault

Hi everyone I have a 99 xj8 with 87,XXX miles on it. The problem I am having is when you go into reverse it acts fine then you put it in drive and it acts like its in neutral and if you rev it past about 1500 rpm it jerks really hard and goes into transmission fault mode and has low power and no gears. Please help!!

Welcome Kolby - it's a shame you have to report this as your first post, but it really sounds like a transmission failure.

If you didn't know there's a very well known and common weak link with this trans - it's a circlip failure leading to the A drum getting damaged.
The latest development attributed to the failure is a worn valve block creating pressure spikes, leading to the failure of a little part that takes out the A drum.
I can only suggest finding a trans specialist in your area and talk to them about a repair or replacement.
Plenty of info about this particular issue, lots of repair posts, you're not alone.

Very similar issue with mine a few months back - I got a rebuilt transmission installed for about $1,700 -- money well-spent, in my opinion. Call around to the various "foreign car" shops in the area to find a transmission shop that is familiar with the problems mentioned in the other posts. Some shops will simply quote you a full rebuild price, which might be worth it, too.

Good luck.
