Default How to properly reposition the camshaft position sensor reluctor?

Hi,

I think I have to realign my camshaft position sensor reluctor.
Hase someone done this before? In TSB 303-08 is described how to to without removing the timing cover. I'm not really sure what to do in step 9 and 10.
Does it mean to lock the camshaft with the normal camshaft locking tool?
This does not fit between cylinder 3 and 4, it's fitted more to the front of the AJ26 engine.
I have the P1396 code and a slightly rough idle since I changed all my tensioners, so I think this is the way to solve my problem.

Thanks Ben

Locking pliers are 'vise grips' or 'mole grips'. The LOCKING PLIERS hold the cam while the reluctor is centered in the slot.

Hi Bob,

thanks for your explanation. Have you done this before? Is it a safe way without doing damage to the camshaft? How hard is it to realign the reluctor? Witch tool did you used for the realigning?

Thanks Ben

Hi, I opened my valve cover today and shot a picture of the reluctor.
Is the alignment right? I think the gaps fit perfectly.

Thanks for a response, Ben

I don't think the reluctor is your issue as you didn't mess with it before.

The attached file should help you troubleshoot for the code.

Will that pinpoint test above work on diagnosing my 99? I would assume so. I used to get this code with my other engine and now looks like I have it with the new one. Perhaps its a wiring problem.....lets hope so!!
