How to Read Vin #'s ?
Hello All...
I consider myself relatively intelligent, however I can't figure out how to read the VIN numbers in the JPEC when specing parts.
See image attached.
The last part of my VIN is: 21LF38783.
The VINS they show in the JPEC (see image) are all numbers. How do I figure where my car fits in?
Thanks all.

Hi SirJag
The answer is the entry at the bottom: the "from 853936" covers 853936 thru 878717 and F00103 thru F59525. Your last 6 digits are F38783.
I found this free vin number check lookup website link in this sub-forum FAQ sticky thread:
Free VIN Number Check Lookup Decoder Vehicle Identification Number | AutoCalculator
I think this should be: You put in your Vin# and it gives you your vehicle serial number (not your engine serial number).

How did you know that "from 853936" covers " 853936 thru 878717 and F00103 thru F59525"? I guess I'm missing that part of the puzzle.
Thank you!

Full view of EPC page
Hi SirJag
I did a screen print of the EPC page to illustrate how the Vin ranges are used.
Look at this Full Page view of the EPC page:
The top title heading is "XJ Series (From (V)812317 to (V)F59525)/ STEERING AND SUSPENSION/ANTI ROLL BAR"
Item# 5 Anti Roll bar link gives 3 choices of where your last 6 digits of your VIN code fits in.
To VIN (835249) covers 812317 to 835249
From VIN (835250) To VIN (853935) covers 835250 to 853935
From VIN (853936) covers all the rest of the valid Vins all the way up to F59525
Rest of Valid VINs
(Model year 1999: 853936 to 878717
Model year 2000: F00103 to F20644
Model year 2001: F20645 to F41862
Model year 2002: F41863 to F59525)
This is the way I understand how to find the part number that is the one for your VIN.
