Default How to select a replacement X308 AJ-26 engine without cylinder head crash problems?

Dear Gods.

Just one question about how to select a replacement engine for a:
XJ8 X308 Daimler
make year 1998 may
VIN SAJDKAND4C-R841898
platform: NBW
engine: AJ-26 4.0L
gear box: ZF 5HP24

Are there X308 AJ-26 4.0L engines without drive chain tensioner / cylinder head crash problems?

Mileage before head crash was 220.000Km. Engine had ticking problems.
Now engine has head crash problems. Car was in a garage for 6 months.
Ticking did not vanish. Now I am the garage.

How can I find those engines? Engine serial code or how can I select?
Engines starting from which engine code...?
Owner wants to keep her alive.

Greetings.

If I understand your question correctly, you are looking for a "non interference" type 4.0 Jag engine to install in your customer's car that will not allow the valves to hit the pistons should you have problems with the cams/timing system?

I know that anything is possible if you are willing to spend the time and money.

But I think the short answer to your question is no.

All the engines will have a head crash problem if the valve timing goes awry. However, this can be completely prevented by installing the latest tensioners and chains.

Personally I wouldn't install a nikasil engine, which are made before 08 18 2000.

Agreed. If you have the updated, 3rd generation metal secondary tensioners, the chances of this kind of failure happening again are very slim.

Thank you guys for the replies.

So my request for a 'perfect' engine code was from the category 'wishful thinking'.
My infos were that there could be a modified factory built engine version without chain tensioner problems. So this info is wrong.

Are the metal tensioners Jaguar parts? I saw them in the US (on ebay, maybe elsewhere) only. Or rmade by a small business having some tool machines plus good ideas?

Greetings.

The factory made the change in August 2001. They are not aftermarket parts. In the US we can buy tensioners for the Ford T Bird or Lincoln LSi of 2001 for considerably less money, but they are the same parts.
