Default How to tell coolant level

I have the low coolant level display on the dash. The coolant is to the top on the aux tank near the firewall. I tried pushing a pencil, eraser end, around in the tank, as per a post on here, but don't know if I did anything. Can I assume the radiator is full, and is there another way to check level ?
Thanks, Jim

If you were trying to ensure the level sensor float is moving freely, you should be able to get your pencil onto the float and feel it move up and down as you move the pencil. The float is like a donut around a shaft.

During running, the coolant could be dropping because of air pockets, so you will want to be sure that the system is properly bled.

On a XJR, the bleed is the fitting on top of the supercharger intercooler.
