Install CD Player & Amp from 2003 XJ8 into 2001 VDP?
Hello Gentlemen:
I have a 2001 VDP.
The PHOTO shows parts from a 2003 XJ8.
Can someone please ID the 3 parts labeled in the attached photo?
B is the CD player, of course.
Is A the amplifier?
C are 2 mounting brackets?
Has anyone tried installing a CD player and amp from a 2003 into a 2001? Any issues I should be aware of?
ALSO... does the amp reside in the trunk? Both the CD player and amp both fit into that one slot in the trunk? Or does the amp install elsewhere?
Thank you,
SirJag

The JTIS cd shows the Amp mounted on top of Autochanger in boot
Hi SirJag
Here is a jpeg file I created from 415.01 section of the JTIS 21 cd - for 2001 XJ models - premium sound system. Shows both units with bracket holding the Amp & Autochanger together and installed in the boot. The Amp is mounted on top of Autochanger.
Here is a PDF that shows where the Premium Sound Components are located:

To put the amplifier you need to have the Premium ICE harness installed in the cars and with the premium harness the sound sytem is different with a subwoofer in the parcel shelve and front twetters in the A pilars instead of the front doors and obviously you need to put the radio switch in "Prem" instead of " Stand"
Now what i don't understand is that a 01 US Specs VDP should already have the Premium sound system with the CD changer

Thanks for the helpful info. It was previously removed... just a empty slot...that's why I'm looking to install another. I'm going to post a photo of the empty slot in the trunk. It just doesn't look large enough for a CD player AND amp.

It's odd... the slot in my trunk doesn't look big enough for both those units stacked on top of each other. I'll take a photo of the slot tomorrow and post it and see what you think. It LOOKS only big enough for the CD player alone.

Hi SirJag
I just checked our unit in the boot.
You need to bolt the Amp to the top of the autochanger and then attach the mounting bracket.
And yes there is enough room behind the side liner (the amp & autochanger are not that tall).
The boot side liner needs to be removed (driver side ) where you see the access whole for autochanger.
You need to remove the plastic access panel for the driver side stop and signal light. Then you can remove the side liner by pulling the top down slightly and towards you. You also need pull down a small section of the ajoining back side liner (they are interconnected).

I took a few mins today to look at that trunk opening. It looks empty, right? Well, you were right on the money. I pulled back the carpeting/liner on the side and behold... the amp was sitting there! So, looks like I'm only missing the CD player & magazine. There is a cable with connector just sitting there, obviously for the CD player. I need to look closer, but I assume the CD player affixes to the same mount that the amp is on.
