Default Instrument panel woes

Hi everyone and thanks for letting me post my problem. I've a 1999 XJ8 and the Australian sun fried the LCD so you couldn't read the various messages and odometer. So I bought a second hand unit, swapped them over and everything works perfectly with the display now clear as day.... but... the original mileage was around 200,000kms and now the odometer reads 475,000kms!
I assumed that the accumulated mileage for the vehicle was somehow stored in the car itself, but now I've learned that the memory lives somewhere in the instrument cluster.
Does anyone know how I can fix this, please?
Thanks!

Hi Mark and welcome to the forums, we hope we can assist with your need you posted. We would greatly appreciate it if you'd introduce you and your Jag here (it only takes a minute and site requirement)... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/

I myself have not had to deal with this, though I've had my cluster out a couple of times for lighting issues.

Have you checked to see if the ribbon and boards that may hold that memory are transferable since it was the LCD that was the issue? I saw where when swapping clusters they may read NOT CALIBRATED and there is a process to clear it.

I know Jag stuff (parts and such) isn't the easiest to work with in Oz from other members posts. But, try reviewing what this company offers in the US... https://www.instrumentclusterstore.c...correction.htm
They may have an associate partner or know of one in Oz....you never know what you'll find out. You can at least get an idea of what they do per their videos.

Here's another... https://www.upfix.com/product/jaguar...ction-service/ ...they state when you scroll down to "Benefits of using us" your VIN nor your mileage will change. So there seems to have to be a way.

There is also a regional section... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/ ...and it breaks down OZ for your territory. You may be able to find British and/or Jaguar auto clubs or meets that may be able to assist you as well. Your in summer so there should be events to attend.

Let us know what you find out....

I fried one and was lucky to find one on eBay within a couple of thousand miles of the original.

Mark, are you sure the bulb behind the LCD wasn’t just burned out?

Finding someone or somewhere that does “mileage correction” shouldn’t be too difficult, my friend bought a unit from eBay to change the mileage on his Porsche when he had a similar issue with a replacement instrument cluster.

Mileage may be possible to change in ids engineering mode. Likely not to get lower mileage though.
