Investigating Error Codes
Been driving most of the week and monitoring the OBDC. P0174 and P0171 have been appearing after each clearing of the fault codes. Today removed all the 'pipes' from the air box to the throttle body. All the electrical connections are cleaned as well as the inside of all the 'pipes'. Removed the MAS and replaced with the new MAS that was causing the the other two fault codes. Will drive the XJ8 to day and see what fault codes may appear. I will replace this MAF if something appears in the TORQUE application. More to come ...
Hi Beartoy,
In my experience the P0171 and P0174 codes are most often caused by unmetered air entering through a leak in the intake air plumbing somewhere between the MAFS and the cylinder head. Just thinking out loud, is it possible that while performing the work that led to installing the new MAFS, you left an air duct or hose clamp untightened, or a hose not fully seated on its fitting, or did you possibly forget to reinstall one of the duct seals, Part 3 or 6 in the diagram below?

Cheers,
Don
New MAF Sensor installed this morning. This is the second 'new' sensor. Only the P 1000 is present on the torque application. A day of driving will see if the other error codes disappear. More to come. ..
Been driving the cat mosr of the weekend. Only error via OBDC is P1000. All others have shown up since new MAFS install Saturday morning. I guess a hard reset will clear the P1000.
