Default Jaguar xj8 4.0 2001 starting problem from cold

Hi guys .could some one throw some light on this please. Just lately when ever i go to start my car from cold or after it has been running and left to cool down it takes time to fire up.it will start if i press the accelarater up and down a few times then it sort of starts then a second or to to sort it self out before it revs up.then its fine.also when this happens it throws a message up saying traction control deactivated .the switch is on for t.c .the car takes a few seconds to start but if i dont gas it .the car will just keep turning over.once it does fire up its fine.also no engine management light on and no codes are stored.any suggestions as it use to start first time off the key.

Put your finger on the fuel pump relay and feel a commanded on to the pump for 3 - 5 seconds as you have the key in the run detent before the start detent . It will turn back off by design and turn back on as the 3rd click as the ECU sees engine rotation by the Crankshaft sensor in the start sequence .

See if you have a code P0340 as this is the start aiding Camshaft sensor and not the Crankshaft . If the Camshaft sensor fails the Crankshaft sensor is reverted to in the start sequence but takes more rotations to do so .

Auto arts stores will read the codes for free .

Might have a fuel line check valve failing allowing the trapped fuel pressure in the line to bleed back into the tank requiring a longer charge then the 3 - 5 seconds pump on in the start sequence .

Sounds like the check valve in the pump has failed or the the pressure falls from leaking injectors????

Could also be the fuel pressure regulator leaking fuel back to the tank????
