I ordered the JD115 front spring compressor in order to swap the front wishbone bearings due to a persistent clonk when going over uneven road. I figured after 250.000km it would be good to do it.
So now I have received the JD115 tool but it didn't come with "operating instructions" or anything that shows me how to use it.
Does anybody have a workshop manual or a JD115 manual which shows how it should be used?
The bar is fed up through spring and spring pan, the assembly can then be compressed.
There should be a pin at one end that locates in the chassis by twisting to lock that end in.
If you search this x308 forum, some members have made the same tool with threaded bar and high tensile bolt/scroll pin & with how it’s to be used also.
Normal compressors don’t really do the job because of the tightness of the spring coils, they just roll off under tension.
Other than ensuring the pin at the top is correctly position in the slot, the collar (arrowed in red) is placed as shown. Note you will need sufficient clearance below the vehicle for the length of the tool .....
GGG the height issue can not be stressed enough. JD6G and JD115 are two of the most loaned tools and we stress that they must have clearance. More than once the tool is returned unused as their home jack will not meet the task. The threaded rod method can work but is very slow and somewhat dangerous. BTW that tool looks more like JD6G than JD115 but your point stands.

What job is being attempted that a normal spring compressor will not work please?
You cannot get any kind of a "normal" spring compressor in there. I know, I have tried and ended up making one from a threaded rod, pin, some large washers, and a long nut from the hardware store. In fact I made two so I could drop the subframe, They were inexpensive and work great.
BTW, don't remove the spring if you can help it; it's a bit difficult and scary to get back in.

When you look up to where the tool locks in you'll see a hole that has the outline of a face with two ears. You insert the tool and twist 90 degrees. Also need M10 rods for safety and don't think the bolt holes will line up without them.
