Just in case any of you guys missed this...
Hey guys,
Recently browsing the XK posts and came across this (throttle cable adjustment);
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=38663
Now i have never really considered the R's as lacking in power but having done this I realise the throttle response on mine was decidedly laggy.
Having done this the in gear acceleration is phenomenal (didn't have to use the kick down to overtake and gather some serious speed...) and the instant get-up-and-go is so nice.
So check the link out and enjoy...
Alex

Excellent heads-up for us, Alex - thanks. I checked mine (99 XJR, 125,000 miles), and the cable had no slack, so no adjustment needed. I did have the factory recall new throttle body installed about 65K miles ago....
While I was there, I cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor - simple job, nicely described here: http://tinyurl.com/2a2todz then click on Articles

I was part of that thread, and I found I had approximately 1/4 inch of travel still to go. It did make a difference. As others have stated, it takes the slack out of the cable which gives full WOT as well as quick throttle response.
I posted this over there as well, but for those of who aren't going to read all the way to the end:
98 XJ VDP owner here. I ran across this thread and finally got around to checking mine. At 38k mi I wasn't sold on the idea that the cable would've stretched much, but I figured I should check it anyway. Sure enough, with the pedal completely depressed (floored), the position sensor was only ~80% to the upper stop. There didn't seem to be much slack, but I figured, what the heck I'll try adjusting it. Well, I found I could adjust the cable to get the pedal to open the throttle completely, but when I did so, the throttle wouldn't return to its normal "idle" position. Hmmm. Well, I guess the only thing left to check is the pedal. Bingo: the pedal stop was screwed in until it was tight, but the carpet was just slightly out of line which meant that the pedal stop was not screwed in far enough. So I pushed on the carpet and screwed the pedal stop in the rest of the way. And then took the car for a quick (pun intended) test drive. :-)

I did this adjustment and it worked really well on my test drive round the block. The car reacts straight away and moves nice and fluid! Previously the car would just gurgle when I pressed the pedal but now it takes off, yet still maintains a smooth deliverly of power.
Great find ABoxley!! Thanks!!
