Default Key Ring Transmitter reset on XJ8

I changed the batteries on my key ring transmitter as it began to lose range and then stopped working and although I followed the intructions carefully the transmitter now doesn't do anything for the car (98 XJ8) The manual says the dealer can reset the codes, can it be done at home? Is there anything I'm missing (I've just acquired the car). Is it expensive if the dealer does it?
Any help would be much appreciated here. Michigan is at 8 degrees Fahrenheit which is about minus 13 Celsius and we need those key clickers working!!
Thank you.

With the drivers door open, key in, hold high beams on, turn key to position 1 and flash high beams 4 times. You
will hear a chirp then press unlock button on remote. Turn ignition off, remove key and test remote.
this is same procedure for xk and xj.

You forgot a couple steps,
ORIGINAL: FactoryJaguarTech

With the drivers door open, key in, hold high beams on, turn key to position 1, clap your hands twice and say "beetlejuice" three times and flash high beams 4 times. You
will hear a chirp then press unlock button on remote. Turn around once, hop on one foot for exactly 5 seconds, Turn ignition off, remove key and test remote.
this is same procedure for xk and xj.

Would this work if I get a new key from let's say eBay?

Nevermind. I understand there are 2 things that need to be programed, the remote and the key. The key seems to be the tricky part (I have only one).
