knock sensor replacement - 98XJ8
Hello guys-
I an getting a knock sensor error.
I want to replace my barrel type sensors with the later ring type.
That means the I have to change the threaded holes into threaded studs or use a bolt that is the correct size and length. Does anyone have one of these sensors out and can give me the thread size and the length.
I would go pull one from my car, but I'm going in for back surgery in 3 hours and it's going to be weeks or months before I can do anything but plan and prepare. So I thought I would get started.

I just posted on a similar (related) subject, did not see your post. The studs are AJ810709 and I managed to find them on the internet. The sizes are as shown on the attachment. Did you verify that the two types are interchangeable?
Just checked and found that what I bought (as pictured) is actually called NRA1268AA, got it here:

I have not. it's that lower part that is the question. I do not know if the threads in the block of the '98 engines are the same as the threads in the block of the '99 engines.
I am expecting them to be, but it is a jag so...

The threads are the same as both are AJ26 engines which had the early screw-in sensors (the threads of the sensor). However, as you can see in my thread on "Knock Sensors", the doughnut type sensors will most probably not work on AJ26 engines (the engines that you and I have) so it looks like we have to stick to the screw-in-tar-filled type.
