knocking noise

i have a 2000 xj8 vdp. today after having oil changed, i heard a distinct knocking. opened hood, sounds like passenger side top of valve in front

2 weeks ago engine missed out and then went into fail safe mode. turned it off and restarted it 5 mins later, ran fine till now. car has 157,000 miles on it

runs good, but afraid to drive it, mechanic is out of town on vacation

does this sound like chain tensioner?

should i tow it to shop as opposed to driving?

in houston also...what ended up causing the noise. just changed oil and plugs and started getting a tapping sound that increases with rev...whos your mechanic and is he good or great?

My 2000 xj8 engine started knocking and we realized that there was almost no oil left!! They put synthetic oil but the e****ine is still knocking..

The oil light didnt come on till I change the oil and now

il pressure low" message comes on and off after the oil change!

What should I do and where should i go?

I appreciate your help and time.

Unfortunately, it's probably new main bearing time, at least. It's too bad; as I always tell my son - NEVER depend on idiot lights, always check fluids on your own regularly - you don't want the life of your engine to depend on a burnt out light bulb.

Thank you for the idea. and you are absolutely right, I should have taken care of my baby more than a messed up cable or bulb. anyway I am already too upset about myself.

How much would that bearing change cost you think? I bought this car for 9K and new engne costs 8K! so there is a limited amount of money that I can really risk on this.

I really appreciate your help.
