The XJs for continental Europe (UK - don't know) have an additional keyhole in the trunk lid.
All 308's have a boot lock...

If the point is - the key opens the boot, it should open the door lock it's a simple thing to refurbish, but not as simple to get to - the door card needs to come off then you've access to the lock. I've swapped all locks on mine with a new lock&key set and even swapped a left hand drive lock into the rhd handle, that's something I wouldn't recommend with a hangover (the new keys needed factory programming)

Great to hear your back into the car - fobs generally pop up on ebay for around £30-40 and a refurb service for around £20 (new buttons and micro switches) I can send you a dead one to get refurbed, I've a couple kicking around...

Hi
Here is the graphic of the trunk unlock images on XJ (X308) models:

The upper image is the push button and lower one is the keylock.

micro swithes? my remote just seems to have circuit board and the inside face of the buttons seems to have some sort of conductive surface that makes the circuit when pressed. it seemed to have worn through on the lock and unlock buttons hence glueing tiny bits of kitchen foil to them revived the remote.

Ah, the early 'brick' type, you can go slightly later and use this type of fob...

JAGUAR X-TYPE, S-TYPE 4 BUTTON REMOTE SMART KEY FOB CASING | eBay

they should work as the security system didn't change just the hardware differences where a better design through model years, no question the electronic systems such as engine management between a 97' and 02' is improved, but not by night and day standards, it's little things that perfect them.

you can find the linking/learning procedure in this forum also, unless you already know it.

I suspect the updated version with microswitches was instigated by the pcb bent metal failures.

Hope this helps.

No ... you are supposed to open the door and let the lady in first .. not leave her standing on the sidewalk while you get in and use the dash button to unlock the passenger door. So, without a passenger door keyhole, a working remote is essential.

The other option is valet parking.

start car
put in gear
hit lock button
release brake
then drive to missus

saves the door handle

or ... you could do the chauffer's jog ... that's always worth a minimum of 500 bonus points
