Long time listener, 1st time poster
Hey There!
I've had a 2000 XJR for about a year now and have been reading this forum since before I bought it. I've never posted though.
I always hate it when I see new people to forums with one post asking questions about problems, but unfortunately, I am going to be one of those people. Here's the novel
Got it with 68,000 miles from ebay. Has about 90k now. When I got the car it had water in the tank. Water was pooling in the gas cap, and the drain hose was kinked. Had this fixed. Car smelled like gas (strong). Turned out to be a loose "something" on top of the gas tank. That fixed the smell, no problem.
Mechanic noted kinked fuel hose at that time, but said no worries if car was running fine. Car ran fine, but then started throwing codes left and right. Started with a fuel injector. replaced that. Then a fuel pump went. Replaced both of them.
Codes still coming up. Located problem as the kinked fuel hose. Pumps were running near 100PSI for about 3 months. Now they're back down at 40. BUT, I'm still getting too rich bank A and B. codes p1072 and p1075. Fantastic Jag mechanic here in town thought completely replacing the kinked fuel line would do it, but CEL just came back on. Even he is at a loss as to the cause.
I've asked him about some other things I've read on line such as MAF and O2 sensors, but he said it wouldn't be either of those.
In the year I've had this car, I've maybe driven it for 6 months. I'm getting 20 MPG, I love driving it, and would continue to do so. Even with the CEL and Restricted Performance lights on, it is running perfectly. When just the CEL and no RP light is on, it pulls perfectly to red line. This leads me to think we have a sensor issue of some sort, but I'm no expert.
Any advice greatly appreciated. It sucks to have a car that runs perfectly, but only lets you rev to 3k rpm.

If you suspect the Mass air flow sensor (MAF), take it out of the air cleaner and clean it, basically by spraying electronic cleaner (fast drying, residue free) on it. Even if that's not the problem, it's a good tune-up procedure that couldn't hurt. CRC makes an MAF cleaner, but it's probably not much different than their regular electronics cleaner. Good luck. Gotta love that supercharged V8!
