Low oil pressure/tapping/Check Engine warnings
Hello Jaguar Forums,
I have a 1998 XJ8 that I just drove cross country, from California to DC. When I purchased the car there was a slight tapping sound, but no warning lights. During the drive the Low Oil Pressure light would periodically come on, but quickly turn off again. Now this warning is stuck on, along with the check engine light. The tapping noise seems louder. Also, I changed plugs in Denver, and noticed that they had quite a bit of oil on them. The oil didn't seem milky, and the car has never overheated. It does run a little sluggish, but I'm not sure if that's really the case. The oil level seems fine. People are telling me that I need a new motor, or to do a rebuild. Is this really the case? Thank you!

Does the oil light come on only at idle? A compression test would tell you a lot, but the plugs indicate you are burning at least some oil. It does sound serious, but more information is needed. The tapping sound is not good at all.
