Default Manual adjustment of steering column

I have a 1998 model Daimler V8. I have issues with the steering column.

It will move up and down okay, but the reach does not work. I was given the replacement part when I bought the car to amend this.

This is not the main issue, when I have the wheel set to its maximum height via the motor, it still looks like there is room for another couple of inches movement upward.

I am assuming that this may be due to the reach not working.

The steering wheel is a tight squeeze when getting in and out of the car, which also leads me to think that the column will move higher.

Is there a way of disconnecting the motors and adjusting the column to be permanently in the correct (comfortable) position?

Thanks in advance.

it's a simple job to swap the motors out and have a working adjustment both ways, it's nice when it works. Typically under an hour to do so maybe contact a Jag specialist in your area, if your round my way I'd do it.

There isn't a way of manually adjusting a power column short of stripping it and the motors.

Thanks for the reply. I will look into this, as I think there is a local specialist in the Scottish Borders.

Currently the reach on my steering column is non functioning as well. When I get the time I will replace the part, but in the mean time I am able to push/pull in and out manually on the steering column to adjust the position.
