Default Manual Gearbox conversion

Hi Guys
New to the forum after just getting my first Jaguar. My father owns quite a few and i have driven quite alot, however now i think i am a official Jaguar owner myself.
This might sound a bit daft but the X308 4.0 V8 i have just got is not ever going to be roadworthy again as it is very rusty, however i wish to give it life in another vehicle and am looking at converting to a Manual gearbox.
I know people have done it before and it costs alot, however i not worried about the other Jaguar electronic stuff and am looking at Megasquirting the engine.
Is there any truth in being able to fit an S-Type V6 Manual Gearbox and slightly modifying the flywheel etc?
What are the options for manual transmission gearboxes which bolt on or need very little machining?

I'm also interested in doing this since I have a spare parts car., I seem to recall the euro spec jags of the series before ours were offered with a manual transmission option and if one were to get the trans from one of these euro models it "might" be possible to make it work. As I recall it is a 5 spd Getrag model 290, very similar to the ones used on bmw's of the same era (check Wikipedia xj x300 & Getrag for info). Since the trans was only offered in Europe, it may be possible to source a simlar one here from a bmw 5 or 7 series. Then you might still need an adapter plate etc. But you are working with the same basic parts that came with the jag.
I should add that do not have any experience with this, all of this is pure speculation- hence all the "may" and "might" in the description above. I'm sure many of the forum here would have more information about this topic. I would love to see this work and hopefully build log as you progress. .

There are manufactures that will make custom bell housings as long as you give them the parameters and then you could use any trans you like.

There is no easy and/or cheap option to put a manual behind the AJ V8. They basically all involve a custom bellhousing or bellhousing adapter and flywheel. Not crazy expensive, but definitely not cheap. There has never been a production manual behind the AJV8. The earlier cars that did have the manual were all the inline 6, which has a completely different bellhousing pattern and everything else. As said before, there are several places that will make custom bellhousings if you send them your pattern, input shaft length, etc. And there are many companies that will make a custom flywheel. That way you can just throw a T56 or TR6060 behind it. But unfortunately there is no easy and or cheap answer, believe me, I've looked VERY hard for one.
