I am in the process of buying a nearly new 2000 XJR Vanden Plas; 5700 miles.
Yes, sounds too good to be true, but I drove it today and this is one of those rare cars that got garaged and not driven much.
Oil changed every year
New tires 6 months ago

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER DRIVING IT HOME?
Radiator fluid?
Brake fluid?
Tranny Fluid?

First of all, Congrags on the buy, IMO I would change th items you mentioned plus the oil, but thats me and something I alwys did when I bought a used car.

For your future work, be sure to read the procedures to do such (prompt the link in my sig), especially the trans fluid change, its fickle and important to be done correctly. To that point, I'm not sure if trans fluid breaks down and may consider not doing it for another 55k if not. Another item of concern would be the tensioners, albeit with minimal mileage, it would be a strong consideration to get it out of the way.

I think that model (supercharged VDP) was only available as a special order in the U.S. in 2000. Nice find.

It should have the MB transmission so that’s a big plus.

TIMING CHAINS/TENSIONERS???????

As my predecessor said: chain tensioners.

Something that would concern me with a car with so few miles is the integrity of any plastic and rubber components: seals, gaskets, lines. Too little use and you can see rot, cracking, and drying.

I'd be very interested to see how all that stuff looks. I'd guess that the relatively mild climate of Sonoma (and garaged) will really help versus...say....a carport in Palm Springs!

 

Yes, timing chains and tensioners (eventually); maybe brake pads, calipers, and hoses (awfully old); watch cooling system (awfully old rubber and seals); upper shock mounts and other rubber suspension components (supra). Also, maybe some lottery tickets while you are on a roll!

 

Another vote to change the timing tensioners. It is a know problem I would NOT wait because it could very easily destroy the engine when they let go.
If you want to take a chance and wait always start the car with the radio off and the window down or the door open. IF you get lucky you will notice some rattling or other noises as the tensioners come apart.

5700 miles: secondary tensioners are probably like new (for now)!

 

I like to hear of cars like this, I'm keen to see photos as I'm willing to bet the interior is mint. Sounds like a real good car.

If it were me I'd go through all the fluids for my own piece of mind and check the known weak points on the car. Get the latest generation tensioners fitted when you can, again for your own piece of mind.

What's the " A " drum mod ?

 

The A drum issues/upgrades are for the non-supercharged vehicles only.
Supercharged XJR's and VDP's have a stronger Mercedes box, and generally don't have any issues

If you are planning on making this a collectible/showcar, which you should, (otherwise step aside or I'll call the JHT on you) then have the car professionally detailed inside and out including the leather and protect the exterior with a high end ceramic type sealant such as the Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating (https://www.pinnaclewax.com/diamond-...e-coating.html). I'd also consider getting a driver's seat cover as they always seem to go.

Most mechanical problems are a part change away and since you won't be using this as a daily driver , preserving the show quality paint and detail is paramount.

 

I am going to +1 recommend the sealant. I had one applied when I won a detailing in Honolulu. It (subtly) does wonders for the car's appearance.
