Default Need some help with Brembo front brake job :(

I'm finally getting around to doing a front brake job on my XJR100, about 2 months after I bought the parts. But I am confused about how to remove the calipers. They are aligned from the factory, and you are not supposed to mess with them, except for one specific way. I thought that way was loosening the correct 2 bolts out of the 4 that are there, in order to preserve the alignment. But my car only has 2 bolts! My caliper is 2 pieces, left and right, held together with 4 allen-head bolts. The mount that bolts the caliper to the vertical link is integral to the caliper. It's held on by two bolts, and that's it.

In the manual that I have (supposedly '98-'03) it seems to show a separate mounting piece that bolts to the upright link. And then the caliper bolts to that mount. But like I said, the calipers on my car have integral mounts. It also seems to show 2 piece front rotors, which is not right. The rotors that I bought are 1 piece, and so are the rotors that are currently on the car. Do I have the wrong manual?

I'm a bit confused, and I don't want to screw anything up. I feel like I should just have to take the 2 mounting bolts off, like any other caliper that I have ever messed with.

In case the XJR100 is different maybe post some pics.

(I've Brembos on my car but so far yours sounds unlike it.)

I don't see why they would be different from other Brembo-equipped x308 XJR's. I'm pretty sure they used the same brake setup that was available as an option on regular 2002 and 2003 XJR's.

Does your '04 have 2-piece rotors? Like I said in my original post, I am wondering now if they sent me the wrong manual.

I've never heard of 2-piece ones. Every car I've ever owned (including this) has had them in one piece.

+1 on what's been said.
My '00 XJR with Brembo has 1-piece rotors all around.
When removing the calipers you definitely should avoid messing around with the big allen bolts at the caliper. You can take the calipers off when removing the two hex bolts which bolt the caliper's anchor bracket to the vertical link. Check attachment for details.
You'll find the correct procedures for the Brembo brakes entitled with "High performance brakes" in the manual.

Cheers, Alexander

Take the two hex bolts off, pull the caliper, pull the pins, pull the pads, push in the pistons, add new pads, bolt back on. Took about ten minuets a side to swap out my pads and rotors on my XJR-100. I think you’re over thinking it.
