New to Form
I am the Proud owner of a 1999 XJ8. I now own two engines, both of which are hard down for the same problem, spun bearring, 1 at 81,000 miles and the other at 62,500
I have several questions.
1. where can I find shop repair manuels, I would like to rebuild them myself, but, can't find reference materials.
2. Is there an inherent problem with that year and model? Are there any recalls?
3. what would be the cause for the wipers to come on when they are turned on, but, I am unable to shut them off, even when the car is switched off. They finally shut down on thier own, sometime later.

black on black: With regard to your wipers, my observations on this forum would lead me to believe your "park switch" located in motor head is bad. I located a motor on e-bay for $50 used and am waiting for delivery. NAPA has a reman for $109, and Autohauz & CarStuff each have new Bosch motors for $129. I currently have a related thread on page 7(tonight anyways). There may be more info there. Good luck. Easy enough job to replace motor though.

Many people use the JTIS electronic manual. I have used www.alldatadiy.com for the last year or so and at $16 annual it is pretty helpful for not a lot of money.
The timing chain tensioners are #1 on the inherent problem list and should be dealt with ASAP. Beyond that it problems are less inevitable, but this forum covers the waterfront of the usual suspects.
Good luck on the wipers -

blackonblack: Glad to hear the new motor fixed your problem. Have mine from e-bay, waiting on Son to decide he's ready to replace, so I can supervise for a change. No rain here for weeks, so it hasn't been an issue.
