I have been visiting the site for months now I'd like to thank all the members for the useful info i have found.

I have a 2001 xjr my supercharger belt tensioner went out. Rockauto has one for sale but the local jaguar dealer told me there was an update that reversed the setup. Now my thensioner has a 8 grove pulley and the idler arm is smooth after the update he said this is reversed.

My question is do I need this update and why will it make a difference?

My 1999 XJR has an original type smooth idler, replaced under warranty by the dealer about 8 years ago. Still works fine 124,000 miles later. I don't know specifically if there is a more current change, but I'm happy with what I have. Perhaps one of our techs has more updated info...
